Community Choice Aggregation

At Mayor Andrew J. Ginther's 2020 State of the City address, the Mayor committed the City of Columbus to pursuing and putting in place a 100% clean energy powered community choice aggregation program by 2022. The City of Columbus then placed community choice aggregation on the ballot in 2020. Columbus residents overwhelmingly voted 'yes' for a 100% clean energy community choice aggregation program. This voluntary program called Clean Energy Columbus was successfully implemented in June of 2022.

Clean Energy Columbus is currently in its 3rd year. Nearly 200,000 households are participating, receiving 100% clean energy and saving an average of $25/month on their energy bills.

What Is Community Choice Aggregation?

Community choice aggregation is an easy and effective way for the City to contract for electricity on behalf of residents. Under community choice aggregation, the City of Columbus will contract to provide residents and small businesses competitively priced, clean electricity from a retail generation supplier certified by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio.
