There was much to celebrate in the end-of-year data report. A total of 2,096 cribs were distributed in Franklin County last year, exceeding the goal of 1,700.
Another goal was also surpassed in 2022, with a total of 1,334 safe sleep ambassadors trained. The goal was 1,000.

The Center for Disease Control and other major medical organizations such as the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and American Academy of Pediatrics recommend against marijuana use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

Infant sleep-related deaths are on the rise in Franklin County and CelebrateOne is committed to turning this around. These deaths are preventable. It will take all of us, though, to educate our residents about the actions they can take to ensure more babies celebrate their first birthday.

November 2022 - November is National Prematurity Awareness Month
Premature birth occurs before 37 weeks of pregnancy and it is the number one cause of infant deaths in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control, almost 400,000 babies are born premature each year.
In 2021, Columbus Public Health reported 17,366 babies were born and almost 2,000 were premature.

October 2022 - Raising Awareness about Infant Safe-Sleep Practices
October is Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Awareness Month. Approximately 3,500 infants die annually in the United States from sleep-related infant deaths.
In 2021, Columbus Public Health reported 17 sleep-related infant deaths.

Celebrating a child’s first birthday is a milestone that many parents look forward to, but for some, that day never comes.
In 2021, Columbus Public Health reported 17,362 babies born in Franklin County. There were a total of 138 infant deaths. In 2020, a total of 17,498 babies were born with a total of 118 infant deaths.

A total of 37 high school students connected with over 27,000 of their peers during the 2021-2022 school year to encourage healthy relationships and choices, surpassing the goal of 13,000.

July 2022 - Infant sleep-related deaths rising
Data for the first quarter of 2022 show 11 sleep-related deaths. In 2021, sleep-related deaths for the entire year totaled 17. “This information is alarming,” says CelebrateOne Executive Director Maureen L. Stapleton.
