The Department of Public Utilities (DPU) has adopted an Environmental Management System (EMS) that conforms with the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard. Developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), it is the international industry standard for best environmental management practices. In order to conform with the DPU EMS, consultants, contractors, and vendors are required do the following when performing work either for the DPU, at DPU facilities, or on DPU job sites:

Public Utilities received ISO certification for its EMS in December 2014 - the first public utility in Ohio to receive such.
