The TAPS (Teens and Police Service) program is an 11-week-long initiative designed for middle and some high school students to establish a connection between today's youth and law enforcement officers. This weekly, classroom-based program offers students the opportunity to confront and overcome challenges under the guidance of dedicated police officers who prioritize their well-being. Officers also conduct modified TAPS programs for various Columbus Recreation and Parks center summer camps.

Our officers serve not only as mentors but also as learners, taking the needs of our students seriously and responding to any calls for assistance. Throughout the program, officers and students collaborate to foster mutual growth, exchanging ideas and addressing each other's needs. This interaction presents a valuable opportunity for personal and collective development.

We unite youth with a dedicated mentor, which happens to be a law enforcement officer. Youth are encouraged to speak out and have their voices heard. Together, youth and law enforcement officers work to build a relationship where communication is paramount. The mentors assist in the classroom, developing and leading educational lessons and youth awareness programs. The Division works alongside community members, business owners, families, and churches to provide resources to aid youth in need. We proudly embrace diversity and place youth in equal footing. Our program builds respect between law enforcement and youth and is a safe space for any conversation youth may want to have. Our goal is for each youth be safe and reach their highest potential.
