The primary mission of the Columbus Division of Police Special Events Office is to coordinate and oversee planning for events of all capacities. The coordination involves traffic control, route planning, security, (special duty) dignitary protection, etc. The Special Events Office works closely with event sponsors to ensure a safe and successful activity. Additionally, the Special Events Office initiates traffic releases to the media and other City divisions to provide information to motorists using areas affected by special events. Special events could include, but are not limited to, parades, runs / races, processions, block parties and festivals.
