Mayor Andrew J. Ginther today announced that Danielle Tong has been appointed to run CelebrateOne, the city’s initiative to reduce infant mortality.
“Danielle brings a broad range of experience to the maternal and infant mortality space, from both the nonprofit and public side,” said Mayor Ginther. “Her understanding of what leads to infant mortality – and the causes of racial disparity in maternal healthcare – make her uniquely positioned to move CelebrateOne forward.”
Tong comes to CelebrateOne from The Columbus Foundation where she is the content expert on maternal/child health and women’s reproductive health. She researches grant appropriations for the Foundation, and is the liaison for a number of projects related to CelebrateOne including Healthy Beginnings at Home and the Safe Sleep initiative. She also served on a focus group for CelebrateOne’s most recent strategic plan. Prior to the Foundation, Tong worked at the Ohio Department of Medicaid and was a fellow with OhioHealth. She holds a Bachelors of Social Work and a Masters of Public Health from Wright State University.
“CelebrateOne’s imperative extends beyond abstraction, numbers and statistics. It’s ultimately about providing a safe and fertile ground for babies and their families to thrive through their first year and beyond,” said Tong. “It is an incredible honor to serve Columbus’ families in such a deeply meaningful and personal way. I am so grateful to lead an organization that elevates and amplifies the resources, talent, brilliance and passion that already exists in our community, to one end: Thriving babies and families.”
Tong will begin with CelebrateOne on July 10, 2023.
