Register a Domestic Partnership

AS OF FEBRUARY 21, 2025, APPLICATIONS AND PAYMENTS WILL NO LONGER BE ACCEPTED IN PERSON OR VIA MAIL.

The registry for domestic partnerships is administered by the City Clerk and intended to reduce the administrative burden on businesses and public institutions to define and certify the existence of a relationship.  Verification is needed for matters such as health insurance, hospital visitation rights and authorization to pick up children after school.

Ordinance 1584-2012 enacted section 229 of the Columbus City Code to implement registration requirements and procedures. Ordinance 3435-2024 amended Ordinance 1584-2012 to update how applications are submitted to the Clerk and outline new electronic payment methods.

The City Clerk's office must receive both the notarized application and payment receipt via email at DomesticPartnership@columbus.gov to begin processing an application. Your typed application should be printed and presented to Notary Public for signature.  Processing can take up to 30 days.
