The project will include approximately 10,500 linear feet of water line replacement. The existing water mains are 80+ years in age and range from 6-inches to 12-inches in diameter. Along with the installation of new water mains, the project will also include new fire hydrant installations and water service transfers. Construction is expected to begin in 2025.

The Department of Public Utilities has approximately 300,000 water meters in Columbus and contracting communities and 17,000 Columbus power meters. The Enhanced Meter Project (EMP) will allow both the Division of Water (DOW) and the Division of Power (DOP) to collect electronic meter readings and provide expanded services for customers. This project will result in enhanced customer service, improved operational efficiency and increased meter accuracy.
Following project development and a pilot project testing phase, installations began in 2023 and will continue for the next few years, area by area. Customers will be notified by mail when contractors are beginning in their area. Contact and scheduling information will be included.

The project will include approximately 9,826 linear feet of water main replacement. The existing water mains range from 64 to 128 years in age. Along with the installation of new water mains, the project will also include new fire hydrant installations and water service transfers. Construction is expected to begin in the Summer of 2023 and end by the Spring of 2024.
