Caring for 2
 is one of 102 federally funded Healthy Start Projects in the nation working to improve birth outcomes for African American women, and to help build a coordinated local health system for maternal and infant health. 

Important issues addressed include: infant mortality, low birth weight, and racial disparities in birth outcomes. 

Caring for 2 is a team of community care coordinators, public health nurses and licensed social workers.

Caring For 2 provides:

  • Regular home visits during pregnancy and after.
  • Help with prenatal and primary care.
  • Guidance and caring support to solve problems.
  • Help applying for Medicaid and WIC.
  • Help obtaining social services and other assistance.
  • Education on pregnancy and infant health.
  • Instruction on child development and parenting.

Who We Serve

  • African-American women who are pregnant or parenting young children.
  • To join the program, a woman must live in one of these nine Columbus zip codes:
    43201, 43203, 43205, 43206, 43207, 43209, 43211, 43215, and 43219.


Services are provided free of charge to the women in the program.
