Caring for 2 is one of 102 federally funded Healthy Start Projects in the nation working to improve birth outcomes for African American women, and to help build a coordinated local health system for maternal and infant health. 

Important issues addressed include: infant mortality, low birth weight, and racial disparities in birth outcomes. 

Caring for 2 is a team of community care coordinators, public health nurses and licensed social workers.

Caring For 2 provides:

  • Regular home visits during pregnancy and after.
  • Help with prenatal and primary care.
  • Guidance and caring support to solve problems.
  • Help applying for Medicaid and WIC.
  • Help obtaining social services and other assistance.
  • Education on pregnancy and infant health.
  • Instruction on child development and parenting.

Who We Serve

  • African-American women who are pregnant or parenting young children.
  • To join the program, a woman must live in one of these nine Columbus zip codes:
    43201, 43203, 43205, 43206, 43207, 43209, 43211, 43215, and 43219.

CF2 serves an average of 153 women per year, totaling 268 babies and 24 sets of twins delivered since 2005.

Cost

Services are provided free of charge to the women in the program.
