According to the law, all dogs and cats in Columbus and Franklin County are
required to be vaccinated against rabies and to wear a rabies tag. Rabies
is a severe viral disease that affects the central nervous system and it is
almost always fatal. All warm-blooded mammals, including humans, are
susceptible to rabies. The rabies virus is found in the saliva of a rabid
animal and it usually spreads to humans through animal bites.
