Columbus Public Health to Offer Low-Cost Rabies Clinic

$10 Rabies Vaccine Will Protect Pets and the Entire Family

WHAT:                       Columbus Public Health will offer $10 rabies vaccines for dogs, cats and ferrets at a special community rabies clinic.

WHEN:                       1 - 3 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2015

WHERE:                     Franklin Park Indoor Adventure Center, 1755 East Broad Street, Columbus

Cost is $10 per vaccination (cash only). Only dogs, cats and ferrets over 12 weeks of age are vaccinated at these clinics. All animals must be on a leash or in an animal carrier. Dogs and cats between 3 months and 1 year old and ferrets of all ages will receive a one-year rabies tag. Dogs and cats over 1-year-old with proof of prior rabies vaccination will receive a three-year rabies tag. (Proof includes a rabies vaccination certificate or Columbus rabies tag). Please bring proof with you. If unable to provide proof, your pet will receive a 1-year rabies tag.  According to the law, all dogs and cats in Columbus and Franklin County are required to be vaccinated against rabies and to wear a rabies tag.  Rabies is a severe viral disease that affects the central nervous system and it is almost always fatal.  All warm-blooded mammals, including humans, are susceptible to rabies.  The rabies virus is found in the saliva of a rabid animal and it usually spreads to humans through animal bites.
