Farmers’ Markets to Provide Healthy, Fresh Produce to City Neighborhoods 
Markets to be held July 31, August 7 and August 14 at Columbus Public Health

 
WHAT:         Columbus Public Health will host three signature Farmers’ Markets this summer to increase access
          to fresh fruits and vegetables in the Near East side neighborhood.

WHEN:         Thursdays, July 31, Aug. 7, Aug. 14, 2013
10 a.m.-1 p.m.
 
Kick-off Ceremony – Thursday, July 31, 9:45 a.m.
 
WHERE:       Columbus Public Health, 240 Parsons Ave.
 
DETAILS:    Columbus Public Health will host central Ohio farmers who will offer locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables to neighborhood residents and participants of the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) nutrition program and the Ohio Direction Card through three Farmers Markets on the Near East side.
 
                     The markets support Columbus Public Health’s mission of protecting health and improving lives because many chronic health conditions – including diabetes, overweight and obesity – are related to poor nutrition.  The Farmers Markets bring fresh produce directly to the Near East side neighborhood to increase access to healthy foods.  
 
Thousands of community members are expected to attend the markets which are now in their 10th year.
