Walk Smart! Facts

Presently there are over 90 elementary schools in the Columbus Public School district. As busing decreases, more students are walking to school. Children are involved in traffic related accidents most frequently between kindergarten and third grade.

Teachers & Parents can be involved!

The Walk Smart safety project contains information, objectives, and activities for students in grades kindergarten through third. It is designed to help students recognize the importance of appropriate pedestrian practices and procedures as they relate to the safety of themselves and others. Walk Smart was developed as a five lesson unit. Teachers can use and incorporate the 20-30 minute activities to develop understanding of safe pedestrian practices.
