Mayor-elect Ginther Names Chief of Staff and Deputy, First Cabinet Positions
Columbus
Mayor-elect Andrew J. Ginther has appointed two experienced city employees to
key leadership positions within his administration and retained two department
directors who will help guide staffing changes and inform hiring decisions
during the transition.
Ginther
named Greg Davies, the current director of the Department of Public Utilities,
to serve as his chief of staff when he takes office Jan. 1. Davies has worked
in city government since 1999 and served four years as a deputy chief of staff
for Mayor Michael B. Coleman. He has led public utilities since December of
2011.
"Greg
brings a breadth of experience to the chief of staff position that will be
essential in the first days of my administration and beyond," said
Ginther. "Greg has led a major city department and understands the demands
of the mayor’s office. I am fortunate to have someone of his caliber who I can
trust to help lead the City."
Ginther
also appointed Kenneth Paul to serve as deputy chief of staff. Paul has worked
in state and local government since 1999, and has served as a senior aide to
Ginther since 2007. He was named chief of staff to the council president in
2011, and transition liaison last week. He will manage the transition and
facilitate an advisory council to be named in early December.
“Ken
has gained a broad range of experience in his service to Council and to the
residents of Columbus," said Ginther. “I am grateful for his hard work
during the transition, and that he will continue to serve as a trusted member
of my executive leadership team.”
Ginther
also filled two cabinet level positions, retaining Nichole Brandon as Director
of the Department of Human Resources and Amy DeLong as the Executive Director
of the Civil Service Commission.
DeLong
was appointed in 2011, and previously served as director of human resources and
EEO officer for the Ohio Department of Development. She was also human
resources administrator for the Ohio Department of Transportation, and director
of career services for Capital University Law School. Brandon has served in her
current position since 2014, and has more than 20 years of experience working
in city government and human resources, including ten years in the Department
of Development, and as human resources manager for the Division of Police.
“Nichole
and Amy are exemplary civil servants who bring a wealth of experience and
professionalism to the City," said Ginther. "I look forward to
working with them to ensure our residents are served by the most qualified,
well trained and professional workforce possible."
Ginther
expects to name additional members of his leadership team in the coming weeks.
Other department directors will remain in their current positions through
year-end, and on an interim basis after Jan. 1, pending permanent appointment
or separation until all cabinet level positions are finalized.
