Fit Week at Local Studios Helps Residents take Steps to a Healthier Life in 2015
Proceeds from Discounted Fitness Classes will Buy Bikes for Kids in Need

Residents have the opportunity to kick off the New Year in a healthy and active style through Fit Week ‘15.  Fit Week -- which runs from January 10-17 – offers a variety of discounted classes at six local fitness studios.  Walk-ins and non-members can take classes at participating studios for the reduced rate of a $10 donation with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting Kids Cycle Columbus.

“Many of us make New Year’s goals to lose weight and get fit only to give up by mid-January, but Fit Week will help transform our resolutions into lifelong habits,” says Institute of Active Living Director Barb Seckler.  “It’s a proven fact that people who are passionate and excited about getting active are far more likely to continue a fun activity they love.”

Residents will have the opportunity to find their favorite way to stay active by trying different classes offered each day of Fit Week:

All Fit Week proceeds benefit Kids Cycle Columbus, an eight week program in urban neighborhoods where kids learn bike riding and safety skills, and have the opportunity to earn their first bicycle.  Kids Cycle Columbus encourages youth to develop a passion for physical activity through bicycling. To date, 150 kids have earned their bikes, helmets and locks.   All donations from Fit Week ‘15 will go toward providing another 140 youth with bicycles.

“Physical activity helps prevent chronic diseases such as childhood obesity and diabetes,” says Seckler.  “It also helps people de-stress, feel good and lead healthier lives, so we hope Fit Week ’15 is the first step to a more active life all year long.”
The new fitness apparel store, Bend Active, will contribute 5% of their sales to Kids Cycle Columbus on Sunday, January 11, and offer a free yoga class that day. Bend Active is located at 1585 West Lane Avenue.  For more information on products click on www.bendactive.com.
