Consumer Alert

Id BadgesCustomers have called to report someone knocking on their door (or calling them) posing as a city employee and demanding a utility bill payment for a city water or power bill.

Please be advised that our crews never collect money in the field. Furthermore, we do not call our customers demanding payment.

If someone identifies themselves as a city employee attempting to collect bill payment or any other purpose, please lock your door and immediately notify Columbus Police 614-645-4545 (or your local police department). Ask to see their employee identification and/or call us to verify information at 614-645-8276. Our employees wear a photo ID badge, a city-issued uniform or shirt and would also be driving a marked city vehicle.

Columbus Police has been informed of these incidents.

If this happens to you, please report it immediately at 614-645-4545 or file a report online and to the Federal Trade Commission (Use the "! Alert" link at the top of the page). If you live outside Columbus, please report it to your local police department.
