The Presidents Day Holiday will Affect Trash, Recycling and Yard Waste Collection Schedules in Columbus

City trash service in Columbus will not be provided on Monday, February 18, 2013, in observance of the Presidents Day Holiday.  Observance of the holiday will prompt changes in the collection schedule for City regular trash in Columbus as noted below. 

For residents assigned a collection color:

  • Collection of trash in color-coded collection areas will rotate forward by one day the week of  the Presidents Day Holiday as follows:
  • Monday, February 18:            No Collection
  • Tuesday, February 19:           Ruby
  • Wednesday, February 20:      Gold
  • Thursday, February 21:          Gray
  • Friday, February 22:               Navy
  • Monday, February 25:            Pink

The color-coded schedule will rotate again on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, 2013.

Two-Day Collection Schedule

  • Residents not assigned a trash collection color have a two-day collection window
  • If your normal collection day falls before the holiday, your trash will be collected on the first day of the collection window
  • If your collection day falls on or after the holiday, your trash will be serviced on the second day of the collection window

Recycling and Yard Waste Collection

  • Bi-weekly recycling and yard waste recycling collection with a collection day that falls on or after the holiday will be delayed by one day during the week of the holiday, with Friday’s collection occurring on Saturday
  • Reminder:  Under the citywide bi-weekly recycling program, recycling is collected every other week with yard waste collected on alternate weeks

Drop off Recycling Options

  • Residents can take recyclables to one of nearly 200 free drop-off recycling locations in and around Columbus
  • Drop-off locations are located at many Kroger and Home Depot stores, fire stations, recreation centers and most Columbus City Schools

Drop off Yard Waste Options

Columbus residents can dispose of their yard waste at any one of nine free yard-waste drop-off locations (please call ahead for hours of operation):

  • Com-Til, the City’s compost facility:  7000 Jackson Pike, Columbus (614) 645-3152
  • Kurtz Bros. and Mulch Manufacturing Inc.:  Residents may be asked to show proof that they are a Columbus or Franklin County resident.
